Ever wondered what the difference between silk flowers vs real flowers for a wedding might be? Before we dive in, we should be upfront. We fully believe every couple should choose real flowers for their wedding! There are big differences between real and silk and myself along with Courtney from Rose Courts Photography go over each of the reasons below!
Whether it’s the floral designer or the flower farmer, when you buy real you personally support someone’s life and dream. I love Courtney’s perspective on this. She shares, “There truly is something to be said about real flowers. People LOVE flowers! If you decide to take the plunge and spend on fresh florals, you will without a doubt be applauded for your decision! Flowers evoke joy, celebration and sacredness. Who wouldn’t want that to be part of their wedding day?”
It’s true! Realistic silk flowers are incredibly expensive. You could always opt for cheaper silk flowers, but oftentimes those silk flowers are not realistic in colors or designs. When it comes to budget, don’t fall in the trap of thinking silk flowers are cheaper!
After your wedding is over, real flowers are donated or sent to compost. Donating your flowers is a great way to brighten up nursing homes, hospitals, and soup kitchens. If your florist is purchasing from quality wholesalers, your flowers should last for another 5 days after your wedding. Why not send them off to donate or gift to family and friends? Roots Floral Design is proud to offer both an arrangement and donation service for your wedding. If a couple opts out of donating or repurposing, flowers are then composted. It’s a beautiful circle of life. Dead flowers are composted to help bring to life new flowers!
Courtney explains, “You can tell the difference. After your wedding day the only thing left is your photos. There is no way to photograph fake flowers in a way that makes them look like fresh blooms. And forgive me but there is no delicate way to say this — those craft store flower arrangements will photograph the worst. Any photographer will agree that fresh flowers will always give your day a high-end look!”

"Highly recommend Roots Floral Design - absolutely beautiful! I can’t say enough good things about Kaytee and her team. The flowers for our wedding far exceeded our expectations. They were stunning and our guests raved about how beautiful the bouquets and decor were! Kaytee understood our vision and created a beautiful setting for the wedding. Last but not least, Kaytee worked well within our budget and made good recommendations. Thanks Kaytee and team!"

“Kaytee is an absolute GEM! She has so much passion and care for what she does, that you feel like she's a friend more than a vendor. She walks you through each step of the floral process with organization, examples, cost, and detail -- all things that make my detail-oriented heart happy. The end result far exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. ALL. THE. GREENERY. Future brides, run, don't walk to Roots for your wedding. From start to finish, she took care of every single floral need to make our day positively beautiful.”
-Laura, Summer 2019 Wedding
"Kaytee became so much more than a vendor for us. The first time I met her I felt as though I met a long lost friend. She was the very first vendor I chose for the wedding (even before the venue) and she lived up to all my expectations and went above and beyond. Each time I met with her I felt confident that she completely comprehended my wants and would fashion them into something that looks put together, yet natural. The day-of she silently transformed a bland rustic space into an enchanting, romantic barn. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful or unique."
-Grace, Spring 2019 Wedding
"Kaytee was so great to work with!!! I provided her with some floral inspirations from Pinterest and Instagram but gave her a lot of free rein coming up with the flowers for our wedding and she went above and beyond expectations. Our photographer was obsessed with all the bouquets and we got so many great pictures of them! She did such a good job making my smaller budget work to make high impact arrangements. She's also the sweetest person to be around!"
